Preparing the nursery for baby’s arrival was such a sweet distraction during pregnancy. We agreed (easily) that the theme would be a tasteful Harry Potter one, and it came together so seamlessly. We found pieces here and there that we fell in love with or had collected over the years. Now, it is our favorite room to be in. I wrote this post for family and friends who have requested a “nursery tour”, but also to document sweet Lucas’ first bedroom.
The wooden stag box is actually a night light. We saw the idea on Pinterest, then found something similar at Michaels. My wife got out her Dremel tool and fine tuned the details. For all you true HP fans, you will get the patronus reference.
I have been hoarding this wand box that we got from Ollivanders since January 2016 (I got my wand at Universal Orlando). Finally, it has a home.
A little chocolate frog detail to round out this little bookshelf.
I bought these prints (the Hogwarts Express above and Hogwarts Castle below) from Naptime Sketches. I liked that they were subtle and stunning accents. Additionally, we loved the art work on the cover of the illustrated Harry Potter, book one. Lastly, we found an hour glass that reminded us of Hermione’s time turner.
The large snowy owl is from a dear friend. That way baby boy has his own “Hedwig”. The money tree is an Ikea find. AND my favorite, this glider, is a gift from my parents. It is the same one they used with us when we were kids.
I made the mobile based off of a picture on Pinterest. It is a reference from Sorcerer’s Stone. I liked how simple and delicate it turned out.
While Lucas is still sleeping in the bassinet in our room, we have kept his stuffed animals in his crib. We love our golden snitch lovey!
Sort of random, but I thought I’d highlight our diapering lifesavers: Burt’s Bees Baby Dusting Powder (love the scent), Burt’s Bees Baby Natural Diaper Rash Ointment (a little goes a very long way), and Honest Company’s Soothing Bottom Wash (this makes baby’s bottom smell lovely and is an awesome “between baths” cleanser). Our holy trinity.
Multiple people recommended the Keekaroo Peanut Changer (our is in vanilla). We were wary because it is a little pricey. But OH MY GOODNESS. What a lifesaver. Especially having a boy. When Lucas showers his mommies in peepee at 2am, I am relieved to just wipe it down with a Clorox wipe and just like that, we are clean again. No extra laundry. No changing of linens. Also, our Munchkin Wipe Warmer is nice and soothing for baby. It is a small luxury that we think he enjoys.
What young wizard’s room would be complete without a few wands, hung above the threshold? Over his door, we keep his bath towel (which has an adorable giraffe head that you can’t see at this angle) and spare laundry hamper.
Pictured above are some of Lucas’ quick access items- from left to right: socks, miscellaneous accessories, toiletries and bibs, and hats.
While pregnant, I spent an evening painting some closet dividers. I think they turned out pretty cute.
