Nothing beats a homemade Christmas decoration. In a season of slowing down and consuming less (well, attempting to), this simple craft is the perfect project. It’s lovely strung up as garland, individual ornaments, cake decorations, and gift toppers.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- A sharp knife
- Baking sheets
- Parchment paper/ silicone liners
- Four hours to kill at home with they bake. Get out your knitting, good books, and or a Christmas movie.
The steps are so simple that this hardly requires a tutorial, but I’m going to give you one anyway. Preheat your oven to 190 degrees (Fahrenheit). Slice your oranges about 1/4″ thick. Too thin and they will burn. Too thick and they won’t properly dehydrate thoroughly. Three oranges filled two baking sheets for me. Line your sheets with either parchment paper or liners. If you have an exceptionally juicy orange, you can pat it dry with some paper towels. Then arrange your slices on your sheets. Pop them in the oven for 1 hour, at which point you will take them out and flip each slice before returning them to the oven. Do this as many times as it takes for your batch to dehydrate completely. It should take you around 4 hours. And that is it. The end. So. EASY!
